Renault (“Renault”, Renault, Regie nationale des usines Renault) is a French state-owned automobile company, the largest in the country. It produces cars, trucks, and sports cars. The headquarters is located in the city of Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris.
The history of Renault began with the first car, which was assembled by Louis Renault in 1898. The power of this car was only 0.75 hp. With. Together with his older brothers, Louis founded the company Renault Freres (“Renault Brothers”). Already in 1899 they managed to produce and sell the first cars. For his car, Louis designed a gearbox in which torque was transmitted to the rear wheels not by chains, but by a shaft with cardan joints. This final drive design has remained unchanged to this day for rear-wheel drive vehicles. The brothers were fond of car racing, so racing and sports models occupied an important place in their business.
